Marcos Jarvis cancer free run celebration

The Green Runners honour Marcos’ journey from cancer diagnosis to recovery with 116km celebration run

The Green Runners joined together for a joyful cancer free run to celebrate member Marcos Jarvis’ incredible journey. The relay run stretched from Guildford to Eastbourne, bringing together friends and fellow Green Runners for a powerful day of movement and meaning.

At The Green Runners, we know that running is more than a sport. It is a source of strength, connection, and joy. So when one of our own, Marcos Jarvis, marked a major milestone in his cancer recovery, we laced up to celebrate the best way we know how: with a shared run and a whole lot of heart.

Our co-founder Darren Evans arranged a little run from Guildford Hospital in Surrey to Eastbourne Hospital. Marcos was given a life-limiting cancer diagnosis at Eastbourne Hospital but decided to run every day whilst receiving chemo. He was treated at Guildford Hospital in Surrey and was declared cancer free approximately two years ago.

Darren, Marcos, Chris, Loz and Tom ran 76km from Guildford to Ditchling Beacon in Brighton and handed over to three Green Runners (Neil, Henry and Talin) who then ran 40km to Eastbourne Hospital to celebrate with the rest of the runners.

We should always run with joy, as we never know when it may be taken away

This was a run to celebrate Marcos’ cancer-free journey but also to remind ourselves that we should always run with joy as we never know when it may be taken away.

Marcos’ story reminds us why we run. Not just for fitness or finish lines, but for resilience, hope, and gratitude. His Cancer Free Run echoes one of our Four Pillars, How We Move, by showing how movement can empower us, even in life’s hardest moments.

Whether you joined the run or cheered from afar, this was a moment for all of us to pause, breathe, and keep putting one foot in front of the other—with joy.
