How Local Meet Ups work

Local Meet Ups are informal gatherings of TGR members. This means you’re running together as friends, rather than taking part in an official, TGR-led activity.

These meetups are safe, simple, and enjoyable when everyone keeps a few shared checks in mind.

The easiest option: meet at an organised event

We highly recommend meeting at an existing running event, such as your local parkrun. This is the simplest way to get together because:

  • The event organiser takes care of insurance, risk assessment, and first aid.
  • There’s no need for any formal training or qualifications to meet there.

Your informal planning checklist

If you’re planning your own route, use your WhatsApp group to chat through these points:

Low-carbon travel
Choose meeting spots that are easy to reach by public transport, cycling, or walking. If driving is needed, encourage car sharing.

Accessibility
Chat about whether the route works for all abilities, including runners with pushchairs or reduced mobility.

Community action
Consider adding a quick litter pick before or after your run. It’s a simple way to speak out and look after local places.

Refreshments and toilets
Check the nearest public toilets and find a local café for a post-run chat. It’s even better if they offer good vegetarian or vegan options.

Thanks again for taking a step towards connecting with other members in your area. Every Local Meet Up helps build a stronger, more supportive, and more sustainable running community. We’re excited to see what you help create!
